A tractor-trailer smashed into an overhead traffic sign in Henrico County, Va., on Interstate 64 westbound during Thursday’s morning commute, according to Virginia State Police.

The raised bed of the vehicle struck the sign about 9:35 a.m., then separated from the cab of the truck and remained upright against the damaged sign, officials said. The bed was removed from against the sign about 11 a.m.

The incident forced the closure of all westbound lanes at mile marker 200, according to Henrico County police. The county neighbors Richmond in central Virginia.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, Richard D. Houston Jr., 62, of Lorton, Va., was not injured. He has been charged with reckless driving.

The crash remains under investigation.
